We're Kevin and Jasmine — husband and wife, parents, and blind and low-vision athletes. We met in 2016 at Goalball Nationals in Fort Wayne, Indiana, where my team, Florida Crossfire, and her team, the New Jersey Honeybees, both took home silver medals. A few months later, at a tournament in Washington, DC, Jasmine tripped over my bag in the hallway. I helped her up, and she said, 'Sorry, I'm blind.' I said, 'Me too' — and that's when she recognized my voice from Nationals, and we started talking from there. I still say I'm the only man alive who had a woman literally fall for him.
Our first race together was in Houston in 2017, and we've gone back every year since — our tradition, and our favorite way to kick off the year. Together we've run marathons and half marathons, and Jasmine has raced in Houston, Chicago, Boston, and now New York. I earned my master's in recreation and sport management, and Jasmine earned hers in rehabilitation counseling. After I finished mine, I moved to New Jersey, and about a year into dating, we moved in together. When our son Elijah came into our lives in 2023, we didn't slow down — we've been lucky to bring him into this passion and community, and we're so thankful watching him grow among people of all abilities and backgrounds. Some of our favorite moments are our annual family cruise — nothing like a large group of blind parents with sighted toddlers and little kids navigating a massive Royal Caribbean ship — and our annual Atlantic City visit, one last vacation before the kids start school. There's also our annual Houston marathon weekend with our EYECAN Alliance partners, and goalball tournaments, where we connect with friends across the blind community to share stories, moments, and laughs.
Outside of work, running, and chasing Elijah, we love date nights, traveling to new places and cultures, and finding fun ways to burn off Elijah's energy — which never really works. People and organizations believed in us and helped us train, travel, and compete when we needed it most. Pavement Culture is our way of passing that forward — apparel built by miles, for every pace and every athlete.
